This past April, Banyan lost a supporter, craftsman and long-time friend named Bob Freeman. For nearly two decades, Bob was our ‘go to’ soundman, working on most of our large video, film, and documentary projects pretty much since we formed Banyan 20 years ago.

So, I finally broke down and got a hearing aid. Not really that unusual in someone my age (50+) but still, it feels like I’ve lost some major part of myself—that my body is starting to rebel as it begins the long, slow journey to “old age.”
Over the past 20 years I’ve learned a lot about how people react to ‘change.’ Since Banyan’s mission is creating change for good, I’ve always been interested in how people respond to change in their own lives, and why these situations mostly end up falling under the heading of either heartache or opportunity, often with no […]

One of the great things about being 20 years old is looking back on some of the great work we’ve created, friends we’ve made, and important messages we’ve helped spread across the country. We found so much great stuff that we thought it would kind of be a shame not to share some of it. […]

In early June of this year, I sent my teenage son off to Europe. This was kind of a big deal because it was the first time that he had traveled anywhere without the rest of his family. It was a school trip that had been in the works for about 18 months – well […]
Recently I found a widely referenced quotation attributed to F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s about the power (and accessibility) of change. About how—in the end—we are all in charge of our own lives and destinies. And about how hope and strength are the tools that make change possible. Unfortunately, F. Scott Fitzgerald never wrote these words. […]
