Improved Technology to Help Teens

This time last year I went to a place just outside of Omaha. It was a picturesque campus in a fall setting. Just beautiful. I learned that this place had a rich history that would rival many Ivy League institutions. I was there on behalf of Banyan to help support The Boys Town National Hotline in their mission to help teens in crisis.

Fast forward almost a year and the leaves are starting to turn again and kids are still getting help and support from Boys Town both on and off campus.

This year Banyan had the privilege of working alongside the Boys Town National Hotline to help redesign their website: YourLifeYourVoice.org.

The redesigned homepage for Your Life Your Voice.

We made many adjustments in this redesign that we are proud of:

  • New logo and branding.
  • Restructured user experience to better direct kids to help.
  • Three new animated videos that bring teens’ stories to life (watch one below).

The biggest new feature however, was building the site to work better on mobile devices (responsive web design).

Before the launch, mobile traffic accounted for about half of the traffic coming to the site. It’s probably not a surprising stat as much as we see people (especially teens!) glued to their devices.

When I think back to that beautiful campus and this organization founded nearly a century ago, it makes me wonder if Fr. Flanagan could have ever imagined what things would be like today. Technology has certainly changed, but the mission of giving at-risk children the support they need to have a better chance in life has remained steadfast.
